Name: Gemma Legg
Age: Aged 22 (DOB 21/02/86)
Based in Ascot, Berkshire
Occupation: Receptionist, Marketing & Events Company
Intolerances: Wheat and milk
Health Background: Gemma had been experiencing severe headaches and was constantly feeling tired for a period of 6 months. She felt her headaches were so bad that she ended up putting her life on hold. For example , she often had to cancel appointments as a result of her headaches and she spent a lot of time sleeping due to her constant tiredness. This also prevented her from going to the gym as often as she liked. In her own words, Gemma noticed that she simply wasn’t as chatty as usual and didn’t feel her self.
After doing her own research, Gemma suspected that what she ate could be causing her symptoms and visited her GP, who recommended that she took the K-Test, to identify whether she had any possible food intolerances.
The K-Test: Gemma took the K-Test in May 2007. Within a very short space of time, the results showed that wheat was a food to address, whereas milk was a food that needed to be monitored. In response to the results, Gemma eliminated wheat and milk from her diet and chose alternatives instead.
The Results: Since starting the changes to her diet, Gemma quickly noticed a marked improvement in her energy levels. After a couple of weeks her daily bad headaches began to subside and now she only experiences headaches infrequently.
Gemma strictly stuck to her new diet for the first five months. However, since then she has been able to reintroduce small quantities of the foods she was recommended to reduce in her diet. As a result of this experience, Gemma now feels more in control of her health, as she knows which foods do and do not suit her.
Gemma says: “I found it reassuring that a K-Test representative was there while I took the test, making the experience feel more personal. I particularly found that the results of the K-Test were easy to understand and the changes to my diet easy to make with the substitutions suggested by the K-Test Virtual Nutritionist. I liked the fact that the K-Test was very comprehensive and analysed foods relevant to my diet. The K-Test is also brilliant value for money!”
I feel that my peers and myself initially, wouldn’t have necessarily linked symptoms such as headaches and tiredness to food intolerance and think it’s an issue that needs to be highlighted more to younger adults.”
